Can I change my excess?

Updated this week

At the moment, it’s currently not possible to change the excess amount for your pet insurance. Napo has set the excess amount at £99 per condition, per policy year for vet fees only.

That means when you do need to claim, you get to keep more of your money. For example, if your pet needed emergency treatment - with emergency appointments typically costing between £250-£500, you’d only pay £99, and we’d cover the rest.

With other providers, a higher excess (like £250) could mean paying the full bill yourself.

If your pet ever develops a chronic condition, you'd only pay that excess once a year for that condition, no matter how many times you claim.

The excess is automatically deducted from your claim payout, and you don't need to pay it separately.

If your pet is under 9 years old: However, we do offer a voluntary co-pay which you can add at renewal if your pet is under 9 years old.

This allows you to reduce your premiums by opting for a 20% co-pay which would be deducted from all accepted vet fee claims, after your excess has been applied.

This can only be added or removed at renewal. If you remove voluntary co-pay at renewal, any conditions that showed signs or symptoms since you've been with Napo (regardless of whether you claimed for them or not) will continue to include 20% co-pay.
