Labradors are infamous for eating just about anything – they're like four-legged vacuum cleaners. This is actually down to a genetic mutation that affects how their brain registers feelings of hunger and fullness. If yours is constantly making puppy dog ‘I’m hungry’ eyes at you, they’re telling the truth! They always feel hungry.
In June 2024, a Labrador called Milo accidentally swallowed a chicken bone. His family was concerned and kept an eye on him.
A few days later, the situation escalated and he began showing more serious signs of distress. Milo’s family rushed him to the vet, where he was diagnosed with a foreign body obstruction.
Strangely enough, the obstruction was a piece of corn on the cob! (At least Milo has a balanced diet…). The vet successfully removed the foreign object, but the emotional and financial toll of the experience weighed heavily on Milo’s family.
How Napo made a difference
Napo offered full coverage for the emergency treatment costing just under £5,000, understanding that Milo’s previous foreign body ingestions didn’t diminish the urgency or importance of this claim.
For Milo’s family, the financial burden of an emergency surgery was overwhelming, but Napo’s support provided them with a safety net in a time of crisis. The peace of mind that came with knowing that their insurance would cover the critical care Milo needed allowed them to focus on what truly mattered: Milo’s recovery.
