What's the waiting period?

At Napo, we want to ensure that your pet is well-protected. If you're switching over to Napo from another pet insurance company at the end of your policy year with them, you can benefit from immediate cover without any waiting period.

However, if it's the start of a new policy or you are switching from another insurer to Napo mid-way through your current policy, there's a short waiting period for certain conditions which means that you won’t be covered for any accidents happening before or within the first 24 hours of your policy start date and you won’t be covered for any other conditions which happen before or within the first 10 days of your policy start date.

  • You will only be covered for accidents that happen after the first 24 hours of your policy start date.

  • You will only be covered for illnesses, dental or complementary treatment, if the first signs or symptoms happen 10 days after your policy start date.

  • For all other sections of cover, you will only be covered for events that occur after the first 10 days of your policy start date.

  • No waiting period applies if you are switching from another insurer at renewal or after a free introductory period. Your pet must be insured right up to your start date with Napo with no gap in cover and you must provide us with evidence of this should you need to claim.

  • When purchasing your Napo insurance, please note that pre-existing conditions won’t be covered. This includes any subsequent/future treatments for the same event. A condition doesn’t need to be formally diagnosed to be considered pre-existing.
